Program Details
Overview
The Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) is a two-year postgraduate program affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka. The medium of instruction for the MPT course is English.
Eligibility for Admission
- Passed B.Sc. (PT) or BPT degree from institutions with a full-time program of a minimum 3½ / 4½ years duration from RGUHS or any other equivalent university.
- Secured not less than 50% of marks in aggregate.
- Completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy Colleges recognized by RGUHS – Karnataka.
- Candidates who passed BPT through correspondence or Distance Education programs are not eligible.
- Must obtain an eligibility certificate issued by RGUHS, Karnataka, before the last date of admission.
MPT Specialization
Musculo-skeletal Sciences
Specialize in orthopedic physiotherapy, focusing on the diagnosis and rehabilitation of muscle, bone, and joint disorders.
Sports Sciences
Focus on preventing and treating athletic injuries, enhancing performance, and promoting physical fitness for athletes at all levels.
Cardio-vascular & Pulmonary
Gain expertise in treating patients with heart and lung conditions, focusing on post-surgical rehabilitation and managing chronic diseases.
Pediatrics
Specialize in the physical therapy of infants, children, and adolescents with developmental, congenital, and acquired disorders.
Neurological Sciences
Focus on treating individuals with neurological disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, and Parkinson’s disease to improve function.
Community Health
Address health on a population level, focusing on ergonomics, health promotion, and wellness programs in community settings.
Course Structure and Content
The MPT program combines classroom teaching, self-academic activities, and clinical postings. University examinations are held at the end of the second year.
First Year
The first year focuses on refreshing the theoretical basis of specialty physiotherapy, along with research methodology and biostatistics. Students undergo clinical postings in their chosen specialty area and are required to select a dissertation topic and submit a synopsis.
Second Year
In the second year, students continue their postings in their area of specialty and are required to complete and submit their dissertation. The learning program for both years includes seminars, journal reviews, case presentations, and discussions.

Attendance & Dissertation
A minimum of 80% attendance is required each academic year. Every candidate must carry out work on a selected research project and submit the results as a dissertation.
Classification of Results
- Distinction: ≥75% in first attempt
- First Class: 65% – 74%
- Second Class: 50% – 64%
- Pass Class: Cleared in more than one attempt
