Overview

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is committed to advancing the role of pharmacists in healthcare through high-quality education, clinical training, research, and patient-centered services. We focus on developing competent pharmacy professionals who are skilled in evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, clinical decision-making, and ethical patient care. From the academic year 2024–25, the department offers Pharm D, and M. Pharm in Pharmacy Practice programs.

Hospital Facility & Collaborations

The department of Pharmacy practice is functioning at our associated Hospital Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College campus for PG programme, and advanced clinical studies for Pharm.D programme. Our department is supported by our own Vagus Super Speciality Hospital, a technologically advanced multi-super-speciality hospital located in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. The hospital provides comprehensive healthcare services covering a wide spectrum of specialties and super-specialties. Our hospitals Equipped with world-class diagnostic and imaging facilities, both of our associated hospitals serves as an excellent platform for clinical training, patient care activities, case-based learning, internships, and collaborative research for our Pharm D and M. Pharm students.

Research Areas

Pharmacy Practice is a multidisciplinary field with a wide scope for clinical, educational, and practice-based research. The major thrust areas include:

  • Patient-centered care: Emphasizing medication therapy management, patient counseling, and individualized treatment plans.
  • Medication safety: Ensuring safe prescribing, dispensing, administration, and monitoring to minimize adverse drug reactions.
  • Health outcomes research: Investigating therapeutic effectiveness, identifying gaps in care, and developing strategies to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Clinical pharmacy: Applying evidence-based medicine to optimize medication therapy in collaboration with healthcare professionals.
  • Pharmacy informatics: Utilizing technology for medication management, clinical decision support, and improving healthcare delivery.
  • Pharmacovigilance: Monitoring, assessing, and preventing adverse drug events.
  • Hospital and community pharmacy management: Improving operational efficiency and ensuring high-quality pharmaceutical services.
